Hey Reader,

Always glad to see YOU!

Here’s something I’ve learned…

Police sirens at 5 AM tend to freak out the neighbors.

Trust me on this one. Nothing says “good morning” like the sound of someone doing vocal warm-ups that could wake the dead three blocks away.

But here’s the thing about getting your voice ready for the mic – most people think they can just roll out of bed and sound like a radio pro. Spoiler alert: you can’t.

Your vocal cords are like any other muscle. Try doing jumping jacks without stretching first and see how that goes. Same deal with your voice, except the consequences are way more embarrassing because everyone gets to hear it.

Let’s start with drinks. Warm tea with honey is your best friend. Coffee might wake up your brain, but it does weird things to your throat. And if you’re already sounding like a frog, don’t grab a soda. That bubbly stuff is basically kryptonite for vocal cords. Stick with water – boring but brilliant.

Now for the fun part that’ll make your family question your sanity. Start with humming. Go from low notes to high notes like you’re doing musical scales.

Then move to the siren sound – yes, like a police car.

Start low and work your way up.

(This is where things get interesting with the neighbors.)

Here’s the secret weapon though – “box breathing”.

It’s the same technique snipers use before taking a shot. Breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold for four, exhale through your mouth for four, then wait four more before starting again.

Do this three times and you’ll sound like butter and feel calm as a cucumber.

The difference between someone who sounds like they know what they’re doing and someone who sounds like they’re reading grocery lists? Preparation.

If you want to sound like you belong behind a mic, whether you’re interviewing guests or keeping an audience glued to their seats, I can help.

I’m offering fifteen-minute one-on-one discovery calls where we’ll talk about your specific challenges and I’ll give you actionable tips you can use right away.

Stellar Podcasting Quotes

(Anonymous Edition)

“Your followers scroll past your posts. But your podcast? They binge it like Netflix after a breakup.”

“Marketing used to be about buying attention. Now it’s about being the voice they choose to hear while doing laundry.”

“A podcast is like a first date where they actually listen to you for 45 minutes.”

“Behind the Mic”

The microphone goes live in 3… 2… 1… and you’re talking to complete strangers about their city like you’ve lived there your whole life.

Except you moved there yesterday and just discovered they pronounce “Nevada” like “Na-VAY-da” instead of “Nuh-VAH-da.” Whoops.

Being the new Radio guy in town means you’re basically performing brain surgery while everyone watches. One wrong comment about the local high school football team and suddenly half the city thinks you’re an idiot.

But here’s the thing that saved my butt every single time: asking dumb questions.

“Wait, you can’t pump your own gas here?” “Beer stores are closed on Sunday?” “The barbecue place everyone raves about is WHERE exactly?”

People LOVE being the expert. They get this little gleam in their eye when they can school the new guy. And suddenly, instead of judging you, they’re helping you. They’re rooting for you to get it right.

Your podcast guests and event audiences are exactly the same way. They want to help you succeed. They want to share what they know.

The secret isn’t pretending you already know everything. It’s admitting when you don’t and asking the questions that make people lean in and say,

“Oh, let me tell you about that!”

Ask your audience.
