Hey Reader,
Grateful for your time today! Let’s think about this…
Your reason for starting a podcast is like your reason for wearing mismatched socks – totally personal and nobody else’s business.
Maybe you launched because you wanted to make money. Or because you’re passionate about collecting vintage bottle caps and figured the world needed to hear about it. Maybe you just like the sound of your own voice (hey, no judgment – some voices are pretty great).
Here’s the thing, though – your “why” doesn’t actually matter as much as you think it does.
What matters is what happens after someone clicks play.
Because once that download starts, your listener doesn’t care if you started this podcast to become the next Joe Rogan or because your cat looked lonely. They care about one thing: are you going to keep their attention, or are they going to switch to something else?
And with 68% of the planet online today, there’s a LOT of “something else” to choose from.
Your competition isn’t just other podcasters in your niche. It’s Netflix. It’s TikTok. It’s that book sitting on their nightstand. It’s their own thoughts during their morning walk.
The good news? People WILL find you if you’re worth finding. The internet is massive, but great content still rises to the top.
The not-so-good news? Being “authentic” and “being yourself” isn’t enough anymore. You need to know how to actually hold someone’s attention once you’ve got it.
That’s where interview skills come in. Even if you’re doing solo episodes, you’re essentially interviewing yourself – guiding the conversation, asking the right questions, and keeping things moving.
After 30 years in Radio, I’ve learned that keeping an audience isn’t about being the most interesting person in the room. It’s about knowing how to make THEM feel like they’re part of something interesting.
That’s exactly what I cover in “How to Keep an Audience” – 50+ pages of the interview secrets that kept listeners glued to their Radios for three decades.

Stellar Marketing Quotes
“You’re not just building an audience; you’re building a relationship—one episode at a time.”
Jay Acunzo
“Metrics, and especially averages, encourage you to focus on the middle of a market, but innovation happens at the extremes.”
Rory Sutherland

I’ve been blessed by having great “Morning Partners” throughout my Radio career!
When you’re doing Radio at dawn, personal hygiene becomes surprisingly negotiable. But finding the right person to share that awkward intimacy with? That’s everything.
The best Radio partnerships aren’t planned in boardrooms. They happen when two people discover they can make each other funnier, smarter, or more interesting than they actually are. It’s like having a friend who always laughs at your jokes, even the terrible ones, because they genuinely think you’re entertaining.
Some of my Morning Show partners…
“Miss Oregon” became a wildly successful Sports Agent.
A TV anchor turned into a high-end psychic at fancy resorts.
And then there’s the “ World Famous Goat Boy”, who thought the Olympic flame was just a really exclusive lighter for his cigarette. (Security disagreed.)
All wildly different people. All absolutely loved by audiences. The secret wasn’t their individual talents. It was how they made the show shine brighter.
Here’s the thing about great partnerships: the other person doesn’t just fill dead air. They create moments. They ask questions that make you sound brilliant. They react in ways that make your stories land better. They turn your solo act into a “Party”.
