Hey Reader,

So glad to see ya!

Here’s a question…

Ever notice how the most memorable podcasters aren’t the ones with the smoothest voices or fanciest equipment?

They’re the ones who sound like themselves having a real conversation. No weird radio voice. No trying to be the next Joe Rogan. Just them, being genuinely them.

Here’s the thing that’ll blow your mind: in our AI-everything world, people are absolutely starving for authentic human connection. While everyone else is trying to sound like a polished robot, you’ve got a golden opportunity to be refreshingly real.

Think about your favorite podcaster. I bet what hooks you isn’t their perfect pronunciation or their expensive microphone. It’s probably something totally unique to them – maybe they ask questions nobody else thinks of, or they have this way of making complex stuff sound simple, or they genuinely crack up at their guests’ stories.

That’s not an accident. That’s their superpower.

You’ve got one too, even if you can’t see it yet. Maybe you’re the person who remembers every random detail from conversations. Or you have this gift for making nervous people feel instantly comfortable. Maybe you’re wickedly good at spotting the story everyone else missed.

The podcasters who keep audiences coming back aren’t performing. They’re just being the most concentrated version of themselves. The numbers person leans into their love of data. The builder talks about systems and processes. The natural comedian finds humor in everything.

Your quirks aren’t bugs – they’re features. The thing that makes you weird at dinner parties might be exactly what makes you magnetic on a microphone.

So, let your ‘freak flag’ fly… even if it’s your love for needlepoint!

Stellar Marketing Quotes

“Growing your podcast audience isn’t just about reaching more people – it’s about connecting with the right people who resonate with your message.”

Jordan Harbinger

“When I write an advertisement, I don’t want you to tell me that you find it ‘creative’. I want you to find it so interesting that you buy the product.”

David Ogilvy

“Behind the Mic”

When forced listening changes your brain…

Ever notice how certain songs can make you want to throw your headphones across the room?

You know the ones. They come on, and you immediately reach for the skip button like it’s a fire alarm. But what if you couldn’t skip? What if you were trapped, forced to listen to that same annoying tune over and over again?

Welcome to my world as a Radio DJ.

When people find out I’m on the Radio, they always say, “You must LOVE music!” My answer? “Some of it.” Just like you have songs you love, people don’t realize how many songs we end up absolutely despising.

Here’s the thing – when you listen to music, it’s by choice. You might hear your favorite song three or four times a day, max. But we can’t change the station or turn it off. We hear the same songs hundreds of times more often than you do.

The worst offenders are usually those novelty songs that come out of nowhere, get played to death, and then vanish like the last slice of pizza at a frat party. They’re everywhere for three months, then poof – gone forever.

For me, it’s America’s “Horse with No Name.” I can’t tell you exactly ‘why’ this song became my nemesis. It wasn’t playing during some tragic life event. I just began hating it with the passion of a thousand suns. It’s actually a well-produced record, which makes my hatred even more irrational.

I grew to have such apathy for that horse and that song, that during contract negotiations, I included a clause saying I was never required to play it. True story.

But here’s what I learned from surviving decades of musical torture – the secret isn’t about the content you’re stuck with. It’s about how you present it. How you transition between segments. How you keep people engaged even when the material isn’t perfect.

Those same skills that kept listeners tuned in through songs they hated? They’re exactly what you need to keep your audience hooked during podcasts, presentations, and interviews.

That’s why I created “How to Keep an Audience” – a 50+ page guide packed with interview secrets from my 30 years in Major Market Radio. Because whether you’re hosting a podcast or presenting to clients, keeping people engaged is everything.
