Hey Reader,
With FIFA wrapped up, the internet can finally argue about something else.
Let’s spend a few minutes talking about your voice instead.
Your credibility has a sound problem.
Most people spend years sharpening their skills, building their craft, and becoming genuinely great at what they do.
Then they open their mouth and accidentally convince everyone they’re a nervous intern on their first day.
That’s not an exaggeration. Your communication skills are either adding points to your score or quietly subtracting them.
And here’s the uncomfortable truth: you’re not even aware it’s happening.
Think about it like this. A piano has 88 keys. Play them all at the same volume with zero variation, and you don’t have music anymore. You have noise.
Your voice works exactly the same way.
When every word gets the same flat treatment, people stop listening.
Not because they’re rude. Because their brain physically wanders off looking for something more interesting.
The fix isn’t complicated, but it does require you to actually hear yourself.
Grab your phone, record yourself talking for two minutes, then watch it back. Brace yourself, because most people discover at least one vocal habit they had absolutely no idea existed.
Volume that’s barely above a whisper. Filler words multiplying like rabbits.
A melody so flat it could double as a sleep aid.
The good news is that once you SEE it, you can fix it.
Emphasizing different words changes everything. “THAT was so awesome” hits completely differently than “That was SO awesome.” Same sentence.
Totally different feeling.
Read out loud as much as you can. Text messages, to shampoo bottles. Just “Play” with your words.
People don’t just hear the difference, they feel it. And that feeling is what makes them lean in and actually listen to YOU.
That’s exactly the kind of thing I help people discover in a free 15-minute “One-on-One with Royce” session.

Stellar Quotes
“As long as we live, there is never enough singing.”
Martin Luther
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer; it sings because it has a song.”
Joan Walsh Anglund (often incorrectly attributed to Maya Angelou)
I crashed a TV show… literally.
“Background actor”. That’s what they called me, and honestly, it was generous.
The year was somewhere in the mid-90s. The show was “Renegade”, starring Lorenzo Lamas. Our station, KCBQ San Diego, had something the production crew desperately needed… a helicopter! (KCBQ 2)
So they struck a deal. Use our helicopter, and toss the World Famous Goat Boy and me into an episode as “background”.
The scene involved a speedboat race gone wrong. Boats flying through the air, chaos everywhere. Our job was simple — stand in the background and look like casual observers recounting the crash.
Simple. Right.
Something came over me. Maybe it was the cameras. Maybe it was the craft services table. Either way, “casual observer” flew right out the window.
Instead, I went full “method actor” — arms flailing, body twisting, doing my absolute best impression of a man who had just witnessed the most dramatic event of his life.
Think cocaine-fueled game of Charades, and you’re close, Reader!
The director’s voice came over like a foghorn…
“Cut! Can the background actors please remain still!”
After all that, I got five and a half glorious seconds of screen time.
But I did get to enjoy lunch sitting right next to Lorenzo Lamas himself,
so honestly, no regrets.
Here’s what that whole experience taught me.
When you have the mic, knowing when to go big and when to pull back is everything. It’s the difference between memorable and maddening.
